Tom Conroy to Walk 600 Miles Through the Commonwealth

Tom Conroy, candidate for U.S. Senate, sets out on Saturday July 2 from his home in Wayland, MA, on a Town to Town walk, which will take him 600 miles around Massachusetts

Conroy, a third term state representative, is undertaking the journey in order to meet with folks from all walks of life and listen to residents from diverse communities in every region of Massachusetts. "This walk will be a wonderful opportunity for me to hear the voices of Massachusetts residents and listen to the issues they care about, the problems that keep them up at night, and the expectations they have for their elected officials" said Conroy. "My diverse background in the business, non-profit, and public sectors, as well as my previous work overseas and in the U.S. Senate, have afforded me the knowledge and skills to solve the problems we are facing as a nation. But I do not presume to know the minds of the residents of Massachusetts. I want to hear their views on the challenges we must overcome, and their ideas for the solutions we must pursue."

In addition to meeting with people individually and in groups along his walk, Conroy plans to work with community groups on service projects in the towns and cities he visits.

Conroy will begin his walk from his home in Wayland on July 2. From there, he will continue to Sudbury and Concord, spend the next day walking in Acton, Boxborough and Harvard, and on July 4 he will return to his district to participate in the annual 4th of July parades in Lincoln and Sudbury. Conroy's walk will resume in Harvard on July 5 as he makes his way to the western part of the state, visiting towns and cities along the way such as Leominster, Fitchburg, Gardner, Greenfield, Orange, and North Adams. After visiting Pittsfield and volunteering to help clean up tornado-ravaged Springfield and Monson, he will venture through Worcester to Brockton, Taunton, Fall River, New Bedford, and Plymouth before making his way along the cape through Falmouth, Barnstable, Brewster and Wellfleet towards Provincetown. A ferry will then take him to Gloucester, where he will continue his walk through Newburyport, Haverhill, Lawrence, and Lowell. The last leg of his journey will be spent making his way towards Boston, through communities such as Burlington, Lynn, Somerville, Arlington, Newton, Quincy and, finally, through the neighborhoods of Boston. He plans to finish his 600-mile walk on Labor Day weekend, with a picnic on Boston Common.

In 2006, when Conroy first ran for office, he literally ran over 300 miles door-to-door to over 4,000 households in Lincoln, Sudbury, and Wayland. Conroy said, "in my first election, my perseverance and conviction helped me earn the trust, confidence, and ultimately the vote of my constituents on the path to victory. I hope to accomplish this with all Massachusetts residents on my Town to Town walk. I believe that, at the conclusion of the journey, I will be in a position to represent the people of Massachusetts better than any other candidate running for the U.S. Senate seat, including the incumbent. And no one will work harder for the people of Massachusetts."
