Tell Charlie Baker to Take a Stand on #RemoveBannon

For more than a month, Governor Baker has remained silent as President-elect Trump named the most regressive Cabinet in modern history. Yesterday, Baker said “we never know how people are going to behave in some of these jobs until they're in them.” Nonsense!

Senator Edward Markey is showing the kind of leadership Massachusetts expects. Yesterday, Senator Markey slammed Trump’s appointments to energy and environmental positions, calling them a “big oil all-star team.” He has pledged to engage and question these appointees fully and aggressively at their nomination hearings.

Governor Baker said nothing as Trump selected Betsy DeVos as his Secretary of Education, despite her advocacy for privatizing public schools.

He’s maintained his “wait and see” attitude as Trump chose Andrew Puzder as his Secretary of Labor, despite his anti-worker positions and promotion of ads that objectify women.

He’s stood by quietly as Trump picked Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson to head the State Department, climate change denier Scott Pruitt to head the Environmental Protection Agency, and former Texas Governor Rick Perry to head the Energy Department, a department Perry once pledged to eliminate.

And after more than a month, Governor Baker still refuses to speak up against hate and condemn the appointment of a white supremacist, Steve Bannon, as Trump’s chief strategist.

We need to tell Governor Baker that it is irresponsible to remain silent while the President-elect assembles an ultra-conservative cabinet and builds a government influenced by Bannon’s racist views.
