Rally and Lobby with CSJ for Criminal Justice Reform
Wednesday, Nov. 1st – at the Statehouse
We will have a bus taking us to the Statehouse.
-New Bedford: Pick up at Shaw’s Dartmouth Parking Lot at 8:30 a.m
-Fall River: Pick up at N.Y. Bagel on President Ave at 9:00 a.m.
-Brockton: Pick up in D’Angelo’s Plaza (739 Belmont St.)
A bag lunch and drinks will be served.
Please let us know if you can come on the bus on Nov 1st.
We are advocating for these priorities:
a. Ending the failed and costly program of mandatory minimum sentences for drug crimes.
b. Reducing the Criminal Offender Record Information laws to allow felony sealings after 7 years instead of 10 and misdemeanor sealings after 3 instead of 5.
c. Raising the amount that triggers a felony charge from $250 to $1,500.
d. Ending unfair probation and parole fees that make cases drag on, trap people in poverty, and cause them to be re-incarcerated.
This rally and lobby day, named in memory of Jefete Robles, an organizer with Neighbor to Neighbor, a sister organization in the struggle for criminal justice reform. Jafete was senselessly murdered recently, leaving 4 young children. Jefete had been heavily involved in trying to pass the Justice Reinvestment Act which contains our priority legislation.
